The Grand Canyon: A Day Trip

The Grand Canyon: A Day Trip

After spending 7 years living in Arizona, I finally visited The Grand Canyon. And it was amazing.

The Grand Canyon is massive. I know everyone says that when they talk about the Grand Canyon, but really, the word massive doesn’t do it justice. It makes you feel at once insignificant and enormously powerful. I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean… But if not, you’ll definitely feel small when you stand beside the Grand Canyon.

Planning your Day Trip:

The Grand Canyon National Park has a really helpful website: http://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/index.htm#CP_JUMP_2681998

First, you’ll need to decide if you want to visit the North Rim or the South Rim. Both are incredible, but there are a few pros and cons to each. People say the North Rim is more beautiful, but it’s also more difficult to access because it’s closed during the winter (due to the higher elevation and consequent snow), and there are fewer nearby towns.

Difficulty Level:

The Grand Canyon is a great place for the entire family, no matter how young or old. It really isn’t a workout at all. The paths along the canyon rim are wide and paved, with basically no elevation change. You can choose to take the steeper, unpaved trails down to the ledges, which is a little trickier if you aren’t in great shape, but other than that, it’s pretty accessible, safe, and fun! Here we are out on one of the ledges:
