Get to Know Tamia, Academic Coach
Tamia brings a passion for history, critical thinking, and lifelong learning to her role as an Academic Coach. She earned bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Africana Studies from the University of Houston, a Master of Arts in History with a concentration in Early American Democracy and Civil Liberties from Texas Southern University, and is currently pursuing her Juris Doctor at Texas Southern University. Tamia loves helping students discover connections between the past and present while building the confidence and skills they need to succeed academically. She believes that learning should inspire curiosity, thoughtful discussion, and a deeper understanding of the world around us.
Where Tamia Makes an Impact
Tamia has dedicated her career to helping high school students excel in challenging coursework. She spent six years teaching AP U.S. History, Government, and Economics at YES Prep North Forest, where she guided students through rigorous curriculum while preparing them for college-level expectations. She also served for two years as a Teacher and In-House Professor, teaching AP World History and AP African American Studies. Her background in psychology, history, and law allows her to help students think critically, communicate effectively, and analyze complex ideas from multiple perspectives. Tamia specializes in supporting high school students in World History, U.S. History, and English, creating engaging lessons that encourage students to ask questions, think independently, and develop confidence in their academic abilities.
Did You Know?
Outside of the classroom, Tamia is an avid reader who enjoys collecting bookmarks from places she visits and books she loves. She also prioritizes health and wellness by running and strength training six days a week. Whether she’s diving into a new book or challenging herself in the gym, she enjoys activities that promote continuous growth, discipline, and balance.

Tamia’s favorite core value is Roll Up Your Sleeves because she believes that meaningful success comes through hard work and perseverance. To her, this mindset applies to every aspect of life, from academics to personal goals. She encourages her students to embrace challenges, stay committed when learning becomes difficult, and recognize that consistent effort is the key to lasting achievement.
